He’s thinner than she remembers. His shirt hanging awkwardly on his shoulders, his gait sluggish. Pants barely held on by the leather belt.
He’s walking slowly across the lawn, arms deep in pockets.
She wants him to look up, to see her standing there waiting for him. But his eyes are glued to the ground. A word from her lips would do the trick, she knows, but for some reason she hesitates. Unspoken words die before they’re given life.
Before I begin, I’m going to address my intent to ignore the elephant in the room : my long absence away from this blog. I’ve thought over how I’d address said absence over the past months. Apologising, rationalising, a mad mix of the two… But now that I’m writing this, I’ll just say thank you to the people that stayed subscribed to my sarcophagus of a blog, probably because you forgot to unsubscribe, but I’ll take that all the same 🙇🏾.
This year will certainly go down in history, as the disruptive depressing mess it deigned to be. And in my personal life, it bore a handful of landmarks, both expected and not.
Somewhere inbetween lazing around on Saturday morning, and catching up on rap beef (#choosing no sides because Em is king, but MGK is cool in my book). It occured to me that for people living in South/North Florida, they could care less about Eminem’s lyricism or whatever topic currently holds our collective attention on social media.
“You kinda need to have someone, you know. Not necessarily be in a relationship, but yeah.. We’ll soon be in final year.. You need to have someone.”
That was said to me by a classmate/friend the other day in class. The topic of marriage/relationships had come up somehow (I forget how), and I had commented of my lack of a significant other and the fact I was in no hurry to get said person.
He seems to disbelieve me…. Aren’t you in your 20’s alreadyand with medicine, you know how it is….
